I create apparel that inspires people to spend more time outside.
I have been working as an apparel designer in the outdoor industry for over twelve years and am committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible culture in the industry. Currently with REI Co-op, I lead a team of designers to create new hike, fitness, and camp apparel.
As a design leader, I am most passionate about crafting a design process that leads to purposeful product. I view the primary role of a designer as facilitator and an editor. One must start with facilitating conversations - listening, asking questions, and learning about people’s experiences to understand what is meaningful to them. By processing these stories, iterating, and editing, an initial design concept emerges. The design comes to life through mock ups, prototyping, testing, and seeking feedback to refine - ultimately ensuring the garment holds up to its intent.
