REI S20 Active Life

I had the opportunity to design an active lifestyle collection for REI Co-op, blending the gap between the fitness and lifestyle categories. Initial inspiration was taken from photos of REI’s founders, Mary and Lloyd Anderson, in everyday clothes enjoying moments outside around Seattle in the 1930s. Particular care went into selecting durable materials with stretch and easy care to enable consumers to wear these clothes everywhere for anything. While the collection is heavily synthetic content, we focused on texture in the materials, giving the pieces depth and warmth. The simple silhouettes use technical, clean, construction with secure pocketing details to adapt to modern life. Lastly, the color palette brings in easy outdoor neutrals to mix and match and a signature floral print inspired by Mary’s garden at her home in Seattle.
